Kylee: Hi, my names Kylee and I’m The Publishing Queen and I’m here today with Deb Pilgrim from Deb Pilgrim.com. Now tell me Deb why do you think it’s really important when publishing a book to treat your book like a business?
Deb: Well because it is a business. People write books to either give themselves more credibility within the field of expertise that they are working in or to/and the added bonus then is to make money from that book - so it is a business.
Kylee: So why would people want to treat it like a business, just because it is a business, how can you move people from I want to write a book through to no actually I want my book to be a business?
Deb: I guess it’s coming back and looking at what was the reason they originally wrote that book and being really clear around what that reason is and from there it is identifying and working with them to then move it into that next faze where they are actually making money from their books because realistically you don’t want books sitting on the shelf.
Kylee: No you definitely don’t want that. Ok for first time author’s out there Deb what can you tell them, what’s the one thing you want to leave them with to ensure their book isn’t sitting on the shelves?
Deb: Again I would come back to be very clear about your original reason, the reason that you did write that book and from there put in place a step-by-step process that takes you from the original working with you to write the book to that actually being able to sell the book and even further from selling that book as ideally what it does do is build your credibility so you want to actually feed off that and be really clear around what that marking plan is at that end product.
Kylee: Very True. So if people wanted more details on how they could get expert advice from people such as yourself or on how to get that ideal marketing plan where would they go?
Deb: Well they could visit my website it’s www.debpilgrim.com and on my site I have a lot of information there that helps people come back to that basic process of marketing so when I work with individuals it’s really bringing it back to that step-by-step process that’s practical and results driven.
Kylee: Fantastic – we all love those step-by-step processes. Well thank-you very much for your time here today Deb.
Deb: Thank-you.
Kylee: And remember listening to expert advice such as this really makes book publishing as easy as 1, 2, 3.
